Music of Life is delighted to announce the appointment of Rutger Beelaerts as its new Chair, following formal confirmation by the Board at today’s meeting.
Rutger brings a combination of strategic leadership, governance experience and a genuine personal commitment to the arts. An active musician, he combines strong board and organisational judgement with a belief in inclusion and wider access, and a real understanding of the importance of music and the arts in people’s lives.
Rutger has built a growing portfolio of roles in arts and charitable organisations in both the UK and the US, and brings valuable insight into philanthropy, donor engagement and long-term organisational sustainability.
The Board believes Rutger is well placed to support Music of Life in its next phase of development, helping the charity build on its strong foundations, strengthen its external profile and fundraising capacity, and continue extending its impact for disabled children and young people through music.
The Board, executive team and wider Music of Life community also wish to record their deep gratitude to Ray Longbottom, who had asked to step down after 17 years of exceptional service as Chair of Music of Life.
Maria Teterina, Chief Executive of Music of Life, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Rutger as Chair of Music of Life. He brings strategic judgement, warmth and a strong understanding of how effective governance can support ambitious but sustainable development. Above all, he brings a genuine commitment to music and to the mission of the charity, and we look forward to working with him as Music of Life enters its next chapter.”
Rutger Beelaerts said:
“I am honoured to be joining Music of Life as Chair. It is impressive what this organisation with such a great mission has achieved since its inception 20 years ago. As someone for whom music has long been a personal passion, I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Maria and her team, trustees and donors to share the joy of music with even more disabled children and young people and improve their life and development.”
